Research shows that a deficiency of cholesterol in skin can lead to dryness. When cholesterol is applied to skin topically, it plays a replenishing role to support the moisture balance and lipid composition for healthier looking/feeling skin. Reinforcing skin’s outermost layers in this way also helps it resist damage from external stressors like harmful bacteria, pollutants, etc.. Together with ceramides and fatty acids, they play a vital role in having a healthy skin barrier and keeping the skin hydrated.

Apart from being an important skin-identical ingredient, it’s also an emollient and stabilizer great for skin repair after using harsh chemicals or bleaching agents,  help soften and smooth the skin, as well as to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Restores barrier properties of damaged skin.

In skin care formulas, cholesterol can also function as a stabilizer, emollient, surfactant, and water-binding agent.

Usage Rate: 0.1 – 5%

Solubility: Oil soluble, add to heated oil phase. Heat in oil to dissolve.
