Description

Climbazole is a topical antifungal agent commonly used in the treatment of human fungal skin infections such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, and other scalp infections.

Though Climbazole is effective on its own, the addition of zinc pryithione can add to the shampoo’s efficacy. Zinc pyrthione can inhibit the growth of yeast, which is a main factor in dandruff, and has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-fungal properties that can work in conjunction with Climbazole.
Climbazole is a stable acid with a neutral pH that ranges between pH 4-7

Soluble in alcohol, glycols, surfactants. using a warm solvent is recommended.
Usage rate: 0.2-2%
Maximum of 2% in rinse-off shampoos when used as an anti-dandruff agent
Maximum concentration of 0.5% in leave on products.

Climbazole Use is Restricted in the EU: In May 2019, the European Commission restricted the use of Climbazole in cosmetics. This restriction allows up to an authorized concentration of 0.5% in a finished product when used as a preservative and 2% in rinse-off shampoos when used as an anti-dandruff agent. This regulation was published to protect those in an aggregate exposure scenario while considering the safe concentration levels of Climbazole at 0.2% in face creams, hair lotion, and foot creams and at 0.5% in rinse-off shampoos.
